Mini Sue - 1988 City Rebuild

Intro - Meet Mini Sue

A classic Mini rebuilt into a fast road car with the intentions of the odd track day but ultimately something I can tinker with.

What have I done? Everything was going fine in my life, but then I met up with a friend who had recently completed the restoration of his £150 VW Beetle. It looked amazing and as I'd seen him working on it on and off over the past year I wanted something to that I could tinker with (well you can't code all the time despite what some of my clients would like).

So I started scouring eBay in the hope that would scratch my itch. I knew it had to be a Mini as my first car was one and I had fond memories of working on the little beast in all weather with sod all tools. So now I had a shed and a welder I thought it was time to have another go. Needless to say the bidding went well as I found this little thing longing for a loving home.

The beast arrives!

Stripped back to basics

Once on the drive way it was time to get stuck in and make her comfy. Due to the amount of work I knew she needed I stripped everything remaining on her (stashing it in my now over full shed) ready for the task a head.

Nothing left untouched...

Rear Subframe

I knew the rear subframe (the hunk of steel that holds all the rear wheels, brakes and suspension together) would have to come off it was completely rotten through. This can take days but was actually over in a very short 3 hours (with a few scuffed knuckles along the way).

Rotten rear subframe

Rust...oh the horror

The front of the car had already had alot of work done on it by the previous owner. All that was left was to finish off the rear (yes, of course its that simple). Trouble is with the petrol tank, carpets, wheels, etc. out the way the true amount of work required starts to show through. Damn you tin worm!

The old battery box This is where the rear subframe bolts to, its important that its sound The rear shocker mounting, quite an important part of the car that. The back of the rear arch...thats the boot you can look into The front of the rear arch

I'll be adding to this as and when I have the time, you can use the sub-menu on the right to navigate through all the Mini related pages....

We have just started playing with the rather wonderful ABCPdf Component and liked it so much we thought we would link back to them! It beats ActivePDF hands down. Go see and enjoy.
